Tamil Nadu to Sell Onions at ₹35 per Kg Through Urban Ration Shops
Tamil Nadu has announced that onions will be sold at a subsidised price of ₹35 per kilogram through 8,739 urban ration shops from September 3. The move comes as the government attempts to provide relief to consumers from fluctuations in onion prices. Food Minister Venkataramanan announced the measure in the state Assembly.
Onions are an essential kitchen commodity and sudden price increases can affect household budgets, particularly for lower- and middle-income families. By making onions available through the public distribution network at a controlled price, the government hopes to improve affordability and reduce the impact of market price fluctuations on consumers.
