Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Urges Focus on Cauvery Water

Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin criticized the Tamil Nadu government, urging it to prioritize securing Cauvery water from Karnataka instead of focusing on political maneuvering.

He cited Karnataka Water Resources Minister Ramalinga Reddy's statement that “Cauvery water cannot be released" and that Tamil Nadu had not formally requested it, which shocked farmers.

Udhayanidhi questioned the Chief Minister's silence, recalling that during former CM M.K. Stalin's tenure, water was consistently released from Mettur Dam on June 12 for Kuruvai cultivation.

This year, water has not been released, leaving farmers uncertain.

He reminded that Tamil Nadu Assembly had passed a resolution opposing the Mekedatu dam, urging all-party representatives to jointly present it to the Union Government.

Karnataka has failed to release the mandated 9.91 TMC in June under the Cauvery Management Board's directive, and now refuses July's 32 TMC as well.

He demanded that the Tamil Nadu government press Karnataka to deliver the water due, rather than focusing on MLA-related politics.
