Edappadi Palaniswami Criticizes Government Over Rising Debt and Policy Gaps
In the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) strongly criticized the ruling government’s financial management, warning that unchecked borrowing could double the state’s debt burden.
Concerns on Debt:
EPS highlighted that within just three months of assuming office, the government has borrowed over ₹20,000 crore.
He cautioned that if this trend continues, Tamil Nadu’s debt could rise from the current ₹10 lakh crore to ₹20 lakh crore by the end of the administration.
He noted that the state already faces unprecedented revenue deficits and heavy interest burdens.
Criticism of Budget and Policies:
EPS argued that the budget lacked concrete plans for financial correction and was filled only with “attractive words” to capture public attention.
He accused the government of merely renaming AIADMK schemes with the label “success,” without delivering real benefits to the people.
He stressed that the first 100 days of governance are crucial for setting clear policies and attracting investments, but the new administration has failed to present innovative solutions.
Public Services and Transport:
EPS pointed out that while the government promised to purchase 1,000 new buses, the year has already ended without fulfillment.
He questioned how many buses would realistically be procured in four years, calling the target “impossible.”
He emphasized that ordinary buses, not luxury AC buses, are what people truly need and appreciate.
Agriculture and Rural Development:
EPS urged the government to focus on farmers’ issues, implement the Uzhavan App scheme, and take steps to remove invasive seemai karuvel trees.
He also called for skill training and job opportunities for rural youth, along with filling vacant government posts.
Governance Approach:
While acknowledging the principle of “acting without speaking” as commendable, EPS insisted that in certain cases, speaking out is necessary to find solutions.
He urged the government to combine decisive action with transparent communication.
