BRICS Summit Begins in New Delhi Amid Global Tensions

India is hosting the BRICS Leaders' Summit in New Delhi, bringing together leaders from major emerging economies at a time of heightened geopolitical and economic uncertainty.

The summit is expected to address international trade, economic cooperation and global governance. However, ongoing conflict in the Middle East and differences among members on international issues may make it difficult to develop common positions on some subjects.

Energy security and disruptions to shipping routes are also expected to remain important concerns, particularly as higher crude prices affect economies around the world.

BRICS discussions are important because decisions and cooperation proposals involving trade, payments and investment can influence a large share of the global economy.
