India and Canada Set Ambitious $70 Billion Trade Target
India and Canada have announced a new ambition to expand bilateral trade to $70 billion, as both countries work to deepen their economic partnership. Discussions are focusing not only on merchandise trade but also on investment, finance, capital markets and regulatory cooperation.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has highlighted cooperation in areas such as critical minerals and energy security, while negotiations toward the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement are progressing. Earlier negotiations established a shared objective of concluding the agreement during 2026.
For India, stronger economic ties with Canada could provide opportunities in technology, manufacturing, agriculture, energy, investment and critical-mineral supply chains. Businesses on both sides are expected to watch the trade negotiations closely as the two countries seek to expand economic cooperation.
